Call for Technical Sessions and Focus Day Events

Tradition. Innovation. Resilience.
UR is an open and inclusive global community of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) experts and practitioners focusing on understanding risk from natural hazards for more effective actions, concrete and innovative solutions for a safer tomorrow.
 
Building resilience is becoming increasingly important worldwide due to rising exposure to climate change effects and natural hazards like earthquakes, which can severely disrupt economic growth.
 
Japan it is particularly exposed to natural hazards, so building resilience is a national priority there. As a worldwide lead in DRM, it is the perfect host for the UR Global Forum. A space to share best practices and foster new knowledge, innovation, and collaboration to face common challenges worldwide for greater resilience.
 
We are looking for creative and innovative sessions that reflect the cross of traditional and new ways to achieve a more efficient and effective Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, promoting discussions and sharing knowledge for collecting accurate information, creating inventive strategies, and harnessing cutting-edge technologies for concrete and actionable initiatives in prevention and resilience increase.

Technical Sessions

Technical Sessions are usually panel or roundtable discussions and last 50 minutes. These sessions will happen during the Main Conference days from June 18-19, 2024.

The UR Conference is an inclusive event, and we welcome community members to submit their proposals for sessions for the main conference program. The UR24 Organizing Committee will select the sessions based on their relevance to UR’s goals and key topics for UR24, innovativeness, and potential to contribute to the participants’ understanding of risk. UR24 main theme: Tradition. Innovation. Resilience.

Requirements
Session leads will need to:
• Submit a detailed session design to UR24 for approval
• Coordinate all individuals (speakers, facilitators, etc) for their session
• Submit presentations and any other materials prior to the conference
• Write up a post-conference report for their session

Focus Days

Focus Day Events are community based sessions and include challenge-focused workshops, hackathons, training, launches of books, reports and initiatives, innovation demos, meetings and seminars. The Focus Day Events can be closed-door or open to all UR participants and will be held from June 20-21, 2024. These events can last from a minimum of 2h up to a full 2-day session.

Individual organizations and UR Community members are welcomed to submit proposals for Focus Day Events. Each individual organization will manage their own workshops, stakeholder meetings, training sessions, or other activities.

Focus Day Events will be selected by the UR24 Organizing Committee on the basis of their relevance to UR’s goals and key issue areas for UR24, innovativeness, and potential to contribute to the participants’ understanding of risk. UR24 main theme: Tradition. Innovation. Resilience.

We will endeavor to accommodate as many side events as possible within the time and space available.
