Biography

Risk communications and behavioral science specialist.
Director of Pacifico Risk Communications, with projects deployed in more than 50 countries, using non conventional tools to tackle risk posed by natural hazards.
Creative Director of the Disaster Fighters campaign.a”Dr. Lucy Jones is the founder and Chief Scientist of the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society, with a mission to foster the understanding and application of scientific information in the creation of more resilient communities, and a Research Associate at the Seismological Laboratory of Caltech. With a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from MIT, Dr. Jones has been active in earthquake research for decades, furthering earthquake risk reduction, including 33 years of federal service with the US Geological Survey. Her pioneering science was recognized with numerous awards, including the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal), the Ambassador Award from the American Geophysical Union, the Distinguished Service Award from the US Department of Interior, and the William Rogers Award from Brown University.

Since completing her federal service, Dr. Jones has also pursued other interests, including authoring The Big Ones: How natural disasters have shaped us (and what we can do about them). She has also focused on performing on the viola da gamba with Los Angeles Baroque, and composed a piece for four viols on climate change, In Nomine Terra Calens.”Producer of the Tsunami Ladies documentary series, a Sendai Framework commitment.
His work on risk communications with Greenpeace was awarded a Gold Lion at Cannes Festival of Creativity.
His work was presented at UNDRR, Harvard, MIT, US Geological Survey, Natural History Museum in Los Angeles and SXSW in Austin.
